Local oyster store loses 500 lbs.+ oysters in recall

PORTLAND, Ore. – A Southeast Portland-based oyster reseller is recalling more than 500 pounds of Oregon-harvested oysters after eight people are sickened by oysters from its Newport supplier.

The oysters were purchased from Oregon Oyster Farms, which on Friday instituted its own recall after eight people in Lincoln, Benton and Multnomah counties became sick - though not seriously.

The health department's initial determination is that symptoms indicate norovirus contamination.

The norovirus can be spread by food workers or by touching surfaces that have been contaminated. Consumption can cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, malaise, abdominal pain, headache and fever. Symptoms typically pass within two days, however the norovirus continues passing through the body and can be spread by those with symptoms weeks earlier who fail to wash their hands.

Le Sorelle Cafe shutting its doors, will throw final goodbye party

PORTLAND, Ore. - Le Sorelle Cafe at Southeast 89th and Foster is going out of business and as a final goodbye to its customers and supporters, they will be throwing a 'Thank You Party' on Friday, Feb. 26 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. There will be free appetizers, reduced prices, fine wine and beer.

Owner Kelly Brouner said she has been at the location for nearly two years but there just wasn't enough foot traffic and the downturn in the economy just six months after she opened up shop didn't help either.

Brouner said a Japanese Sushi bar is slated to move into the spot. When asked whether she plans on opening up shop elsewhere, Brouner said perhaps sometime in the future she might think about it, but for now she plans to focus on wrapping up the final details of the closure.

Marino Adriatic Cafe voted most romantic Portland restaurant

With Valentine's Day just around the corner, time is running out for those still trying to find that perfect romantic restaurant.

Luckily, readers of the online website Urbanspoon.com have chosen Marino Adriatic Cafe, located at 4129 SE Division St, as Portland's most romantic restaurant.

According to a restuarant listing in the Portland Mercury, the owner, Dario, is a Serbian who escaped ethnic cleansing by coming to the United States as a refugee.

Marino's offers authentic pirogi's, cappuccinos, various pastries and panini sandwiches.

According to the overwhelmingly positive reviews on Urbanspoon, most comments revolve around how friendly the staff and owner are to their customers and how deliciously authentic the cappuccinos are.
